Heroes of the Merge: Alanna Lane (and Nancy)

We’re back with another character from the Merge; in this case, our deuteragonist,  a seemingly normal teenage girl and budding journalist/streamer, Alanna Lane, and her loyal streaming drone, Nancy:

Age: 16

Personality: Ambitious and focused but sometimes arrogant and suffers from tunnel vision

Powers: None

Quote: “My viewers—the people of New Gold City—deserve to know the truth about the Anomalies, and I am going to do my darnedest to give it to them, no matter what. You’ll just have to deal with that.”

Alanna Lane is a budding independent streamer/journalist, determined to get to the bottom of the mystery of the Anomalies plaguing New Gold City (and maybe increasing her viewer counts and channel subscriptions for her channel, the Lane Investigations Show, at the same time). Supported by her ever-loyal, if slightly dim, AI streaming drone, Nancy, Alanna seeks to investigate the Destiny Corporation and its owner, Richard Plutarch, who seems to be deeply connected to the Anomalies.

Alanna is no superhero herself, but she is the granddaughter of the Hand of Night, one of the Original Generation superheroes from the early days of superherodom. She prefers not to air this view, however, due to the Hand’s fall into villainy late in his career.

Alanna turned out to be a surprisingly fun character to write, especially her interactions with her drone, Nancy. You can see their interactions yourself in The Merge #1: Unity, which you can preorder on Amazon HERE to make sure you get your copy when it launches on Monday, March 31st!

Tune in on Monday for our fourth character, the infamous Richard Plutarch, another antagonist who you have already seen bits and pieces of in other character bios already. But just like everyone you have met so far, there is more to meets the eye with Plutarch, but you’ll see more next week.

Thanks,
