Heroes of the Merge: Mark Wright (AKA Brainstorm)

Hello! I hope you have been enjoying the character bios and introductions so far. Now I am ready to introduce you to one of my favorite characters from The Merge so far: Mark Wright, AKA Brainstorm, superhero of New Gold City and father of the main character, Justin:

Age: 45

Personality: Eccentric and intelligent but occasionally ditzy and prone to unnecessary dramatics

Powers: Can look at things on a molecular level without needing any equipment (and is highly intelligent and creative as well)

Quote: “Do you know how long I’ve waited to mentor one of my children in the fine art of superheroing?”

Mark Bartholomew “Brainstorm” Wright is the father of Justin and his siblings, as well as the superhero of New Gold City. Having had a successful tri-career as a scientist, inventor, and registered superhero, Brainstorm is looking to find a replacement nowadays and retire so he can spend more time with his family while tinkering with fun side projects (like his giant mech security system for his base, the Brain Cave).

Brainstorm is the inventor of the Gate System that Justin uses to gain new powers and costumes. Initially dismissing the Gate System as a failure due to its high fatality rates during testing, Brainstorm becomes fascinated when Justin reveals he can use the Gate System without suffering any ill effects.

Brainstorm is also a huge believer in multiverse theory and will preach it, along with the societal and cultural benefits of harnessing the mysterious Super Energy for the good of humanity, to anyone who doesn’t know him well enough to know how to maneuver out of that conversation politely.

Brainstorm is a lot of fun to write, easily one of the biggest hams in the story. If you want to see how much fun he is, preorder The Merge #1: Unity on Amazon HERE, releasing Monday, March 31st.

On Wednesday, we will meet Brainstorm’s main rival (and former college roommate), Dr. Stephen Physic, another antagonist working for the Destiny Corporation. Keep an eye out for that.

Thanks,

Lucas Flint
